These are wonderful coupons... one's I'll actually USE!! I printed one out last week for $1 off the contact solution I use.

They do ask you to download a coupon printer program - which I did with no problems. The purpose of it is to prevent people from printing unlimited coupons and then selling them.

Yes I know... postage rates have gone up again. But there IS a way you can save money on postage if you are shipping via Priority or Express Mail. That is by using Click n Ship on the US Post Office Website.

If you pay for and print your postage online, you will receive a small discount - but every nickel counts these days! (You do need a scale, but they are available at very reasonable costs - even at Walmart)

Where you will save even more will be in gas as you don't have to drive to the post office!

After you have completed your label purchase (which you CAN print out on regular paper and use clear shipping tape over it to affix it to the package) you can then go to the "Carrier Pick Up" page and request a package pick up at your next mail delivery time... for NO CHARGE!

I hope all you Mom's had a nice Mother's Day!

Mine was very nice. My daughter came home from college and my husband took us out to breakfast.

I knew we were going out to breakfast - my daughter coming home for it was a surprise :)

But on Saturday night, I realized I had totally forgotten to get something for lunch as my husband's parents were also coming over for Mother's Day. I had just gone grocery shopping the day before too - drat!

I decided I "needed" some sugar free ice cream too - so I decided to go to the store that was a little further away. It's about a 14 mile round trip. That's when I realized that it cost me $2 in gasoline just to make this quick trip to the store! YIKES!

Obviously my first tip would be to try to limit your shopping to one day... or in conjunction with other necessary errands. I do go to several stores when I shop, but they are fairly close together.

Then I decided to look up other ways to save on gas by getting better gas mileage.

I found these tips on the http://www.fueleconomy.gov/ website.

1) Keep Your Engine Properly Tuned - save about 4% on fuel
2) Check & Replace Air Filters Regularly - save up to 10% on fuel
3) Keep Tires Properly Inflated - save up to 3% on fuel
4) Use the Recommended Grade of Motor Oil - save up to 2% on fuel
(the recommended grade/weight of motor oil will be listed in your manual. Not all engines recommend the same oil!)

You can save up to 19% on gas costs by fixing these items! I'll be checking my car today!

Movie Rentals in the Mail - Save on Late Fees AND Gasoline!

Yes, although we live in the Chicago suburbs and have many retail movie rental stores nearby, my husband and I choose to rent our DVD movies thru the mail.

I don't mind driving out to go to the store to choose a movie... it's the returning I don't like! I don't always drive by the movie rental store and I don't want to go out of my way - especially with gas prices the way they are (I pay over $4 a gallon!!!)

Add on top of that the late fees that occur every once in a while... and we decided that having our movies come to us in the mail was a much better idea!

If we don't have time to watch the movie for a couple of weeks - it's no big deal and no late fees either.

We don't have to drive anywhere to pick up or return the movie... so there is a TON of savings there!

To add to your savings... Blockbuster Total Access is also offering a special offer to new subscribers!!

Expensive Coffee Drinks?

Are you addicted to those expensive coffees at Starbuck's? Do you pay $4-$5 a day on your morning coffee? That adds up to $80-$100 a month - only counting weekdays - or $960 - $1200 a year!!

I make my own chocolatey coffee drink instead of paying the high prices. You could still save money if you only drank your own 2 days a week... and still got your Starbuck's coffee 3 days! (Just substituting your own coffee twice a week can save you $416 - $520 a year!)

Brew your coffee. If you don't have time, try Folger's instant coffee in those tea bags. It's not really instant... just a different and faster way to brew!

When your coffee is ready, add some Hot Chocolate Mix and stir well. You'll have to experiment a little at first to find out what is the right amount for you. I add one coffee scoop full.

Add sweetener and half and half. If you want it extra special and sweet, spray it with some whipped cream from can (fast, easy and YUMMY!)

Voila!

SUGAR FREE TIPS

I can't eat sugar. There are also some sugar substitutes I cannot tolerate (ie: corn syrup, maltodextrin, polydextrose) ALL of the instant flavored coffees have high amounts of maltodextrin and or polydextrose - which for me is just like drinking sugar, so I can't use them.

Nestle and Swiss Miss both have hot chocolate mixes that are sugar free and although they may have some of those sweeteners, they are not high up on the ingredient list and so personally - I am able to drink them.

As for "sugar free" sweeteners -- ALL of the powdered "sugar free" sweeteners I have found contain MALTODEXTRIN - which is as bad as sugar for many people. Maltodextrin is a sweetener derived from corn and personally affects me just as badly as sugar when it is the first ingredient.

Equal, Sweet n Low and all the other powders contain Maltodextrin as their first ingredient (I wondered why I was getting the shakes until I READ the LABEL!)

I use liquid Sweet n Low as my sweetener as it does not contain sugar! They have just come out with some sweetener tablets now too that do not contain maltodextrin or polydextrose... but I have not had a chance to try them out myself yet.

Just in case you are not aware... several companies have "Buyer Clubs" when you buy dog food (or cat food).

PetCo has a program which will send you a coupon for a FREE BAG of FOOD!

Just join their PetCo P.A.L.S. program to start. You must buy the same type, brand and size of food, but after you purchase 10 bags, you will receive a coupon in the mail for a FREE BAG of food of the exact same type that you've purchased. This program is only good on in store purchases, not online.

If your dog eats Canidae dog food, ask your dealer if they participate in the CANIDAE Pet Foods Frequent Buyer Program. Great Dog Treat to Make!

I got this tip from my good friend Daphne. I love to give my dogs good treats to keep them busy for a while - but don't want to upset their digestive tracts. And with 5 dogs (whippets and a chihuahua) I'm always looking for good, but inexpensive treats.

Daphne told me to get some of those beef femur bones and fill them with peanut butter! Then, wrap them with plastic wrap and pop them into the freezer. They last longer this way.

Oh my gosh my dogs love them! This keeps them busy for quite a while and it is a nutritious snack too. I buy the all natural peanut butter that is just peanuts - no added sugar or salt. It's the store brand, so it's not too expensive. She also mentioned plain yogurt too. Be sure to get plain... and be ABSOLUTELY sure there are no artificial sweeteners!! Many artificial sweeteners are POISON to dogs!
